Privacy Policy
Word→MD is built privacy-first. Every document conversion on this site runs entirely inside your web browser using WebAssembly — your files are never uploaded to any server.
This policy explains what data we handle, what we never collect, and how third-party services (such as advertising) may interact with this site.
1. Your documents never leave your device
The conversion engine is the real Pandoc compiler, compiled to WebAssembly and downloaded to your browser once. When you drop a file, it is read and converted locally in a background thread on your own computer.
You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while converting, and you will see no file transfers. The site even keeps working offline after the engine has loaded.
2. Data we do not collect
We do not require accounts and do not collect: your documents or their contents, converted output, names, email addresses (unless you email us voluntarily), payment information, or any biographical data.
We do not sell, rent, or share any document-related data — there is simply no mechanism by which your files could reach us.
3. Cookies and third-party advertising
This site may display advertisements served by third-party advertising partners, which can include Google AdSense. When advertising is enabled, Google's advertising cookies — such as __gads, __gpi and test_cookie — may be set in your browser to serve ads, cap how often you see an ad, and help detect fraud, based in part on your prior visits to this or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
Where required by law (for example, in the EU/EEA), a consent banner will let you accept or reject non-essential cookies before any advertising scripts load.
4. Local storage and caching
To keep repeat visits fast, the conversion engine binary (~58 MB) is stored in your browser's Cache API. This is application data only — it contains no personal information and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings.
Your theme preference (light/dark) is stored in localStorage on your device.
5. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
6. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy — for example, if we ever introduce analytics or new advertising partners — we will post the updated version on this page with a revised effective date.
